Check out a recent custom ordered sneaker box where we partnered with Artistique Customs (@Graffiti212 on Instagram – ) to make a box to go along with a custom-ordered pair of sneakers for Life Coach, Fitness & Wellness Expert, Personal Trainer – Mia Lanz (@MIAMotivation on Instagram).
In this video you’ll see us put together the box, and then you’ll see Artistique Creations paint the box, sneakers and a few accessories included in the gift.
Creating the box
To start off, we solicited the help of Graffiti212 in choosing a sneaker size and dimensions. This helped us identify how much space we needed to allow for the box.
We then sketched out a few ideas and settled on a wooden box made from 1/2″ sanded plywood. After cutting the pieces to size, we used pocket hole screws on the inside of the box. Once the box was glued and dried, we sanded the outside, and then cut the box open to create the lid and the bottom.
As far as the inside of the lid, we wanted to recreate the recipient’s logo in a 3-dementional effect. We decided to do this reaching out to our sister-company (WittyThings.us) for a vinyl cutout/template. We then transferred the template from cardboard to wood and cut a 1/4″ piece we would then mount centered on the inside lid.
Graffiti212 will be personalizing the logo to match Mia’s theme.
After the glue cured, we continued to sand the box inside and out, before adding the mounting hardware. We used 1-1/2″ oil-rubbed bronze, narrow utility hinges, and dark repurposed leather straps as lid support brackets.
The last part was to add L-brackets to the corners, to reinforce the box and provide a rugged, industrial look to the finished product.
We are super excited to share the behind the scenes of this project. Check out the video link below:
After completing the chest, we shipped it out to Artistique Creation for the completion of the project. To see the behind the scenes of the project, check out his IG and [upcoming] YouTube channel.
