DIY Patriotic Photo Display
Hey guys! With memorial day just around the corner, and independence day soon to follow, I thought it was time for some patriotic DIY’s. Here’s a great piece I made for my home. This wooden Patriotic Photo Display was a lot of fun to make and as with most of my DIY’s it was also pretty simple too.
Let’s begin!
Materials:
- Block of wood (10″(L) x 1.5″(W) x 2.5″(H))
- Acrylic Paint (red, white and blue)
- Star shaped stencil OR Stickers
- Painters tape
- Paint brushes
- Floral wire
Tools:
- Drill
- 1/16” drill bit
- Glue gun
I used a piece of pine scrap wood we had lying around which was already cut to 10” (L) x 1.5” (W) x 2.5” (H)
If you don’t have scrap wood no problem, you can get yours at the hardware store (Home Depot, Lowes etc…)
The measurements don’t have to be exact just make sure its rectangular in shape.
Place your painters tape 3” from the left of your piece of wood, and paint the blue part of your flag. (Let it dry)
**Remove the tape and place it over the edge of the blue, this is going to prevent any of the
red and white paint from seeping onto the blue part of your flag.
Now mark where your stripes will go ¾” of an inch apart. Once you’ve marked where your stripes will go, use your painters tape to tape off 2 stripes at a time. I was able to paint two red stripes at one time. Continue to repeat this step for all the stripes. (Let the stripes dry completely before taping off and painting the other stripes)
Stencil on your Stars, OR you can use stickers if you prefer.
Along the top part of your flag you are going mark where you will drill the holes for the metal wires to go into that will hold the wooden USA letters and pictures. If you’re using a piece of wood with the exact measurements I have provided, then the holes should be 2” apart.
Drill ½” holes using a 1/16” drill bit.
Paint your wooden letters in Red, White and Blue. Let them dry.
Cut 3 pieces of floral wire that is the same length of your wooden letters, with about ½” to spare.
This extra ½ inch will go into the pre drilled holes
Attach the wire to the back of your letters with your glue gun.
Put some glue at the end of your wire and place it into the pre drilled hole.
Cut two 9” pieces of wire, and fold them in half to measure 4 ½”. Use the wooden part of your foam brush to curl the top end of the wires (this will hold the photos) wrap the two ends of the wire, place glue on the tip and place it into the other pre drilled holes.
Now place your photos, or polaroid’s and there you go, you’re all done 🙂
Hope you enjoyed this DIY. If you gave it a try send us a photo for a chance to be featured in our monthly newsletter.
