Take a look at a recent retirement chest and Shadowbox for a retiring Marine Gunnery Sergeant.
We were recently asked to help showcase a retiring Marine with a special gift. We’ve made a set of Retirement Chest and Shadowbox painted in olive drab, distressed to showcase a battle worn exterior.
On the outside of the chest we added the Marine’s rank, name and dates of service on durable, glossy vinyl.
The inside of the lid contains two flags – a set of folded US Air Force and a Marine Corps flag, used to represent the Marine’s military career in both services.
The center doubles as a shadowbox where we’ve added a few items (provided by the Marines) to highlight the GySgt’s accomplishments.
Centered on top is the Marine Corps Eagle, Globe and Anchor.
Climbing on the left is a set of USAF Chevrons depicting the Marine’s prior career. On the right side you’ll find a set of Marine Corps
Chevron/, representing the same.
You’ll find an impressive set of medals earned for such a distinguished career right in the middle.
Directly below that is the Marine Corps Hymn, flanked by the top ranks earned in both the Air Force and the Marine Corps.
The next item is a shadowbox tray that sits flush inside the chest.
The inside is filled with black mounting felt, and filled with few notable items. On the left side you’ll find a United State Air Force ribbon stack, outlining the many great accomplishments earned while completing a career in the USAF. On the left you’ll find another impressive stack of ribbons and shooting badges for an equally impressive Marine Corps career.
A command challenge coin was added directly beneath the USAF ribbons, and centered below is a retirement message provided by the Marines to the retiring servicemember.
Instead of rope handles, we supplemented this chest with two leather handles matching in color to the leather straps holding the chest lid open – adding a little flair and tradition to a fellow leatherneck’s gift.
Customary with our chests, we used gold and brass hardware all throughout the chest – to include gold corners, latches, hinges and screws.
